Coin lockers at Kyoto Station

Kyoto Station has roughly twenty-seven locker locations and several thousand lockers, and in high season they are still not enough. JR cabinets are about ¥400 small, ¥500 medium and ¥700 large, with internal heights of roughly 30, 50 and 86 cm at a constant 36 cm width and 60 cm depth.
A newer cashless bank of seventy-two lockers opened in 2025 on the first floor of the Miyako Yume Terrace at the Hachijo exit, at ¥400, ¥500 and ¥700 for small, medium and large. It takes IC cards and QR codes only.
Station lockers are generally usable from about 04:30 to 00:20, and there are outdoor banks on both the Hachijo and Karasuma sides that stay accessible around the clock.

These are the common cabinet sizes, not a guarantee for this station: operators buy their own cabinets and even publish the figures as approximate. Measure your case and check it in the size checker before you count on a locker.
If the lockers are full
- The staffed Crosta Kyoto counter in the basement by the central ticket office takes bags for about ¥800 a day and opens from early morning to evening.
- The central post office west of the station plaza holds items up to 170 cm around and 30 kg for about ¥600.
- Same-day delivery from the station to a Kyoto hotel is widely offered, which is often the better answer than storing a case at all.

The large cabinets are about 34 × 57 × 84 cm inside, which takes a case up to roughly 28 inches if you lay it on its back and its depth including the wheels is under about 33 cm. Anything bigger needs an extra-large cabinet, which not every bank has, or a staffed counter.
What if every locker is full?
Full lockers are normal at Kyoto Station from mid-morning onwards in peak seasons. The reliable fallbacks are a staffed baggage room, a storage service such as ecbo cloak that books a café or shop by the day, or sending the case to your next hotel by takkyubin so you do not have to carry it at all.
