Shinjuku is the busiest station in the world and its lockers go accordingly. JR East prices its newer smart cabinets at about ¥300 for the smallest, ¥500 small, ¥700 medium and ¥900 large; the older cabinets run ¥300, ¥500, ¥800 and ¥1,000.
The biggest single bank is on the ground floor outside the East exit, with a little over two hundred lockers of which roughly sixty are large. A quieter option is the basement level near the platforms used by the Narita Express, which holds around seventy-five lockers and is missed by most people heading for the East exit.
Large lockers here are routinely gone by mid-morning in peak season. Some of the smart cabinets can be reserved in advance for an extra fee of about ¥500 per box, which is worth it on an arrival day.

If the lockers are full
- ecbo cloak lists a large number of shops around the South exit and Kabukicho, and booking the night before removes the problem entirely.
- The bus terminal at Busta Shinjuku has its own lockers, which fill later than the station ones because fewer people pass them.
- Sending the case ahead by takkyubin from a nearby convenience store costs less than two days of a large locker.
